Formed in 2009, the Taiwanese rock band consists of five members: vocalist and guitarist Guoguo, bassist Hongli, keyboardist Xiao Gan, saxophonist Hao Ting and drummer Zun Long. The idea for the band was inspired by the American rock band Velvet Underground, and the group’s name “Sunset Racer” came from a photo booth image taken for the band’s MySpace profile in 2010, which featured a roller coaster in front of a sunset.
As a representative AOR-city pop band in Asia, Sunset Racer is not only popular in Taiwan, but also in Europe, America, Japan, South Korea, and other overseas countries. One of the tracks of the album “Jinji” (金桔希子), which was released in 2016, has already reached 80 million plays on Spotify (as of June 2023), and was also featured on the New York City, New York, and New York City, USA. Asian performers involved in the well-known music event SummerStage Summer Music Festival, and in 2019, Sunset Racer performed at the Japan Fuji Rock Music Festival held in Japan.
In 2020, Sunset Speed’s new album “SOFT STORM” was selected as the fourth best album in Asia in 2020 by the UK-based music magazine “New Music Express”. 2021, Sunset Speed participated in the music production of the original Japanese TV animation work “Drifting Boys”, which was held in New York on August 21st of the same year. On August 21st of the same year, Sunset Racer won the Best Orchestra Award at the 32nd Golden Melody Awards with the album “SOFT STORM”.
